Dr. Máire Ní Ríordáin is a Senior Lecturer in Education in the School of Education, University College Cork. She is a graduate of Physical Education and Mathematics (BSc.(Hons.), 2005), and Mathematics Education (PhD, 2009) from the University of Limerick. She joined the UCC School of Education in 2016 and is currently Director of the Masters in Education (M.Ed.) Modular programme. She is also involved in the delivery of a number of modules on the School’s Professional Master of Education (PME) and M.Ed. programmes. Máire is currently the School of Education Examinations Officer and Chair of the School of Education Research Ethics Committee. Máire has held previous academic positions in the National Centre for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching and Learning (NCE-MSTL) in the University of Limerick (2008 - 2010), in MIC Thurles Campus (2010-2012), and in the School of Education, NUI Galway (2012 - 2016). She is currently Treasurer of the Educational Studies Association of Ireland (ESAI) and a serving member of their Executive Committee.

Máire’s key research interests include - bilingualism (Irish and English languages) and mathematics education; mathematics teacher professional development; practitioner research in teacher education; and STEM education. She has published numerous articles in journals such as Research in Mathematics Education, ZDM - Mathematics Education, Teaching and Teacher Education, Mathematics Education Research Journal, the International Journal of STEM Education, Irish Educational Studies, and the International Journal of Science and Mathematics Education. Máire is Co-Leader of the 13th Conrgess of the European Society for Research in Mathematics Education - Thematic Working Group 09 - Language and Mathematics, and has been an International Programme Committee member for the past two European Topic Conferences on Language in the Mathematics Classroom. Máire also served as an Organising Committee Member of the Topic Sub Group - Language and Communication in Mathematics Education, at the 14th International Congress on Mathematical Education in 2021.
